Founded in 1963 by Walter M. Priddy and Swannanoa H. Priddy, The Priddy Foundation was primarily a vehicle forthe founders' personal charities, with principal focus on Wichita Falls, Texas and the states of Virginia, the birthplace of Walter, and North Carolina, the birthplace of Swannanoa. In addition to Swannanoa and Walter Priddy, the original trustees were their sons, Robert T. Priddy, Charles H. Priddy, and Ashley H. Priddy, plus a few close friends.

Over the next three decades, the Priddys' new philanthropic venture functioned as a family foundation with each family member being given the opportunity to advocate grants for causes in which they had a personal interest. Although there were no principal areas of focus for grants, the foundation soon became recognized as a vital force in philanthropy in Wichita Falls. Through the work of the foundation, each family member was able to demonstrate tangibly their interest in the vital work performed by organizations that they supported. This community commitment was evident also in their personal charitable endeavors, a commitment that continues today through the activities of the surviving members of the family.
