The Priddy Foundation is dedicated to the support of programs in human services, education, the arts, and health, which offer significant potential for individual development and community improvement.

The Priddy Foundation is a general purpose foundation, interested primarily in programs that have the potential for lasting and favorable impact on individuals and organizations. Considerations for funding include the geographic area served by the project, the individuals and groups served, the problem being addressed, the availability of existing resources and the degree of need. The foundation considers grant applications from organizations in the Wichita Falls, Texas area. (In Texas, the following counties: Archer, Baylor, Childress, Clay, Cottle, Foard, Hardeman, Haskell, Jack, King, Knox, Montague, Stonewall, Throckmorton, Wichita, Wilbarger, Wise, and Young. In Oklahoma, the following counties: Comanche, Cotton, Jackson, Jefferson, Stephens, and Tillman). Before an application can be considered, documentation of an exempt classification is required as described in Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Additionally, the applicant must be considered "not a private foundation" within the meaning of Section 509(a) of the Code. The foundation neither lends nor grants money to individuals.

The foundation makes grants principally in the following categories:
· Arts and Culture
· Community Enhancement
· Education
· Health
· Human Services
· Youth Programs

Within the above categories, the foundation makes grants of the following types, listed in order of priority:

Program Grants
The Priddy Foundation gives highest priority to organizations seeking funds for service extension or implementation of new services. Projects should make a difference in the lives of people served by dealing effectively with known problems or opportunities. Results should be capable of evaluation against defined standards of measurement. Proposals should be realistic concerning the ability of the organization to conduct the program and to sustain the program beyond the period a grant from The Priddy Foundation may cover.

Organizational Development Grants
Recognizing the importance of the vital work performed by not-for-profit agencies, this foundation has an interest in assisting organizations strengthen and equip themselves to serve even more effectively in a complex and changing world. This foundation will, therefore, consider grants to organizations for such things as board and staff development, planning initiatives, technical assistance, technology enhancements, and capital projects. Organizational development grants will be dependent on a comprehensive plan supported by the organization’s board, outside professional assistance (e.g., Center for Non-profit Management), if appropriate, and absolute linkage between the development plan and the ability of the organization to achieve its mission more effectively.

Capital Grants
The foundation board will consider capital projects for buildings and major items of equipment. Approval is more likely if the project has broad support from organizations and individuals to the extent that The Priddy Foundation’s requested share of the project does not exceed 20% of the total project budget. Before a capital grant is funded, the organization must attain the project fund-raising goal and document that funds raised are sufficient to complete the project as presented in the grant application.

Operating Grants
Although the foundation is wary of fostering annual budget dependency on the part of a grantee agency, our board recognizes that there are circumstances in which a grant for general operating purposes might be critical to an organization’s success or viability. Such grants would be for a limited period of time. Among other conditions which might be imposed, based on a specific organization’s application, a grantee organization will be required to present a practicable plan to achieve self-sufficiency without additional foundation funding. During the term of the grant the grantee organization might also be required to enter into a formal consulting arrangement with a Center for Non-profit Management, or a similar organization, also with the objective of becoming self-sufficient.

The Priddy Foundation does not normally make grants for the following purposes:

· Operating deficits
· Endowments
· Debt retirement
· Organizations that make grants to others
· Charities operated by service clubs
· A request for capital funds for a project previously supported
· Any grant that would tend to obligate the foundation to future funding
· Fund raising programs and events
· Grants that impose expenditure responsibility on the foundation
· Grants to individuals, including individual scholarship awards
· Start-up funding for new organizations
· Individual public elementary or secondary schools (K-12).
· Religious institutions except for non-sectarian, human service programs offered on a non-discriminatory basis
· Basic or applied research
· Media productions or publications
· School trips
· Conferences or other educational events except through an organizational development grant
· Direct grants to volunteer fire departments (such organizations are supported through a fund established at the Wichita Falls Area Community Foundation)

Exceptions to the above would occur only in response to rare, compelling circumstances and such a grant would be initiated by the board outside of the regular application approval process.

Qualifying organizations should submit a preliminary application based on the following grant schedule:

Grants Considered In: May November
Preliminary Application February 1 August 1
Formal Grant Application March 1 September 1

The board of the foundation meets in May and November to consider grant requests based on applications submitted by qualifying organizations. The application process consists of a brief preliminary grant application for the purpose of policy screening, followed by a more detailed formal application from those organizations whose projects are accepted for consideration at the preliminary level. In most cases, a site visit and application review session will be scheduled soon after the formal application deadline. The decisions of the foundation board concerning grant requests will be communicated to the applicants by mail soon after the board meeting.

The preliminary application can be completed and submitted online at www.priddyfdn.org.

Our staff welcomes the opportunity to discuss possible projects for grant support and to answer questions about the application process.
